We are about to kick off the first fight of the year. Sept. 12th to be exact! I am so excited! Taking the summers off is great but I really start to miss my fight family. I just spent the last couple weeks working at our booth at the Alaska State Fair and it was really great catching up with people that I have not seen in a long time! The booth had some changes, new photos and some new gear! Lots stopped in to take advantage of the buy a shirt get a free ticket deal we had going at the fair! I have one guy who is 76 years old, his name is George. George come to see me every morning right when the fair opens up. He loves MMA and sometimes knows more about it than I do. He is the high light to my fair and reminds me a lot of my Grandpa who passed away when I was a kid. I love this state I live in and the stories people have to tell!

My buddy George at the Alaska State Fair 2012

Now that the fair is over and no more daily pork chop on a sticks, its time to get down to business.

I have put together a great fight card for this Wednesday night. There are alot of green guys (and girls) on this card but I feel there are some great match ups. The main event has been a fight in the making for some time. These two stand up warriors will go toe to toe both looking to get a shot at the 155 belt. Joe Degroff and Cody Rice have to be two of the most explosive stand up guys in this division!

Also a bit of a change this year, AFC has partnered with La Mex and Chilkoot Charlie’s and are going to be doing some GREAT promotions. AFC weigh ins will be held at the La Mex off Dimond every Tuesday before fight night from 7-9 p.m. and the After Fight Party will be right after each AFC fight! All the fighters and cage girls come down and it is a really great time! We will be having our after party in the Ice Bar at Chilkoot’s and I am even going!! Married life has been great to me and I don’t get out much! I am excited to see you all out there and thank you for your support for myself and the AFC! I love you guys!

We got the video back on our wedding a few months back and forgot to share it. It was such a fun time in Hawaii marrying my love. This really captured the feel of the wedding week and how I felt during the whole process. Mike Foster was the AFC photographer until he moved to California a little over a year ago! We asked him to join us in Hawaii for the big day and he brought his friend Shane along for the ride. Just remember they travel and they are relatively inexpensive compared to other companies out there! Enjoy!

Where has the first month of Summer gone? Since our season has ended I was able to take our yearly trip to Vegas this past Memorial Day to celebrate turning 30. It was not as bad as expected turning 30. As far as I am concerned 30 is the new 20 and I feel younger with more energetic than I ever have felt! It was great meeting friends in Vegas for UFC 146. My Sister and the cage side doc headed down with us. My Best friend Hannah and her Fiance Bryan met us there from Washington and also my husbands best friend, his girlfriend and son drove from Arizona and met us there . We were super fortunate to be able to stay at the Bellagio hotel which consisted of swimming in the pool and drinking copious amounts of cake vodka every afternoon. At night we had the chance to go a VIP UFC Bud Light party where Chael Sonnen, Johnny Hendrick and Dominick Cruz were all guests. We also went to UFC 146 where the main event was JDS vs. Frank Mir. I love fights, thus I love Vegas. It really is the fight capital of the world. You just never know who you might run into. While at the UFC event we ran into the cast from TUF 15. I just loved Rio on the show and was pretty stoked to meet him!

Ran into some of the cast from The Ultimate Fighter 15

I also had the privledge to take my first Copper River dip netting trip with one of my best friends Jeneva. This was a real treat considering our husbands let us leave the kids at home for a three day adventure to Chitna Alaska. Jeneva just had twin girls 4 months ago and has a 2 year old at home. When her husband told her to go we packed our stuff and didn’t look back! This was a true Alaska experience! We drove to Chitna, which was over a 4 hour drive from Wasilla. Spent the night in the tent in the parking lot. Woke up at 4 am to wait in line to get on a boat. When you fish out of Chitna you have to take a boat down the river and they drop you off on the bank to dip net, but in our case we were dropped off on a cliff. We literally had to tie ourselves off with rope in case we fell. The river is not forgiving and is extremely fast and cold. We talked to the lady at the Chitna Gas station (which was a conex only open in the summer) she said that someone dies every year from being swept down! Jeneva and I made sure we would make it home to our families and tie off.

This is the cliff we fished off of for 2 days.

The fishing was great! We spent the night on the rock, slept for about 4 hours and got up and fished some more! All and all we caught two king salmon, one was 28lbs and one was 18lbs. We also got 13 red salmon. The fishing was slow but we had a great time!

I hope to see some of you out on the river enjoying what this great state has to offer! Before you know it summer will be gone and it will be back to bunny boots and parkas

So a lot has happened since my last post. I am now officially Sarah Lorimer. Yea we did it, we got hitched! After the December AFC we ran off to Oahu with our close friends and family and said I do on the ocean in the wedding ceremony of our dreams! Our little family is now complete and could not be happier.

Ryan and I were able to honeymoon for two weeks on the big island! So many adventures on this trip I could write a book. One of the highlights of the honeymoon was going to Hilo and seeing BJ Penns gym.

BJ's gym in Hilo Hawaii

Penn is one of my all time favorite fighters and it was pretty sweet to see where all the magic happens. They gave me a tour of the facility complete with a outdoor training area! (Something us Alaskans would know nothing about ) The fight community is alive in Hawaii with an events going on all the time. We were not able to catch an event when we were there. A tough man competition was going on the day we were leaving and Just Scrap (BJ Penns event) Was the following week. I asked the locals why nothing was going on around New Years and Christmas, the said that none of the Hawaiians want to cut weight! Ha must be the same reason its hard to find fighters to fight in December and Jan here in AK.

As soon as I got back from the honeymoon, AFC 88 was knocking on my door! Had that event! Braved the cold -25 deg weather and went on to have Mat Su Showdown 6 in Wasilla! The fans were great! Its been so cold I really miss the Hawaii weather! Thanks for staying tune! More post to come soon!!

AFC hosted its 93rd event last Wednesday night! How is that you say? We were only on AFC 86. Well we have had 5 events in Wasilla, a 2 day tournament and also an AFC at the Egan center. AFC is fast approaching its 100th event! That is grounds for a celebration!

Back to AFC 86 Nic Herron- Webb vs. Champ Andy “Tankmode” Enz. This fight had the making of an epic fight! When asked who I had given the edge to my answer was always, “I don’t know.” Usually for every fight I have my predictions and I honestly did not have one in this fight. Maybe that is why I was so excited to see it go down. Personally I am a huge Tankmode and Nap Time fan. There really is not favorites here. Both are young athletes with a ton of promise and I feel both some day will make Alaska extremely proud as they move up to larger MMA promotions.

The fight was all it was predicted to be. Nic surprised me with his stand up game and Andy surprised me with his take down defense. Both fighters knew what they needed to work on and both did just that!

After the fight was over. I was happy with the decision. I could see how the fight could have been scored for either fighter. All the judges scored the fight the same up till round 5. Round 1 and 2 went to Nic, round 3 and 4 went to Andy, round 5 was the deal breaker. One judge gave it to Nic and 2 judges gave it to Andy! The Champ retained his belt! I feel in the world of MMA. The Champ needs to be beaten. Nic would have been smart to try to finish the fight knowing just that. The fight was so close and could have even been scored a draw in my eyes. I am sure glad I was not a judge that night! I just want to say when it come to fight in the AFC. This by far has been my favorite fight! It involved everything a fan could have asked for. If you did not make it to AFC 86 you really missed out. Keep an eye out on facebook, we will have the DVD’s for sale within a week or so.

Herron-Webb vs. Enz! Exciting fight till the last punch! Fight of the DECADE! AFC 86 Nov. 2011

To top of a great night of fights Gray ” The Bully” Maynard was there. I met this guy back in 2007 in Vegas and fell in love with him back then.

Gray and I in 2007 where I first me him at the Voodoo lounge in Las Vegas

He is one of the most humble fighters I have ever came across and just knew we had to have him up in Alaska to meet the fans. In true fashion Gray walked into the Sullivan Arena and gave me a big old hug! He had no idea who I was just that I was a fan. He said he thanked me for my support and being a fan. I introduced myself and he was a bit shocked to see a woman running the promotion. I told him about meeting him in 2007 and I was prepared with a photo of him and I when we first met. I signed it, “From your biggest fan. Love Sarah” I asked him if he ever got a signed photo from a fan before. He said no and said he loved it! He was going to hang it on his wall!

Myself and Gray "The Bully" Maynard at AFC 86 Nov. 2011

Thanks to the Air Force Reserves for bringing him out! Gray is a cool dude! I look forward to keeping in touch with him and watching him climb back up the ladder and take that 155 belt that is his! Gray is a true class act and will have a fan for life out of me!

With the wedding coming it was time to get in wedding dress shape! 31.6lbs down 18.4 to go!! 2 months and counting. The summer was really good to me and my friend Amber was a huge motivating factor! It takes a lot to chase after these fighters and for the first time in my life I am able to do so! I did a marathon this summer! 26.2 miles…. Are you KIDDING ME??? that was by far one of the hardest things I have ever done. I recommend it to everyone to at least try it once in your life. To walk across the finish line gave me hope…. It let me know that anything is possible. After battling with quitting smoking (had my one year smoke free Sept. 16th of this year) working on my health and weight goals, I now know anything is possible.

We are back in the heart of the fight season and I sure did miss my fighter fam! It was so good seeing everyone back at AFC 85! We have had 3 events this season already with the Mat Su Showdown 5 being a huge success! Thank you to all the Valley fight fans! I love events in my own back yard!!

We had a huge 12 fight fight card last Wednesday at AFC 86. I really enjoyed this fight card! It had a great mix of newbies and vets.

Friday we ran around filming for a new AFC Sarah promo to help promote this blog and show some behind the scene clips of daily dealings of a female fight promoter. Click the female fight promoter link. Let me know what you think.

What kid of stuff would you like to see behind the scenes of AFC events? I take it for granted sometimes how sweet my job really is! I love the fights!!!! Anything MMA!!! I get lost in the day to day activities that make the AFC tick so it was really cool to look back at what exactly we really do to make AFC happen.

I am super excited to see what the 2011/2012 season brings. I know for sure it will bring for me a new last name ….. I will be Mrs. Lorimer before the new year is here!! Hope you will all join us when we get back from our wedding in Hawaii for the biggest party of the year!!!! Thank you, friends, family, fighters and fans for making me the luckiest girl in the world! Till next time! ~Sarah

Let me just start off by saying NO I HAVE NOT QUIT ON THE AFC! We are taking summers off and will be releasing the new 2011-2012 schedule very soon! I miss my fight family, but it was time to take some time for me!

So I have been off since May 20th from all things fight related. In the mean time I have been able to go on a bear hunt up the Deshka with the Alaska Healing Hearts and the wounded woman soldiers, have went on multiple kayaking trips, done some trout fishing and most importantly work on getting in shape. I have a wedding that is calling my name in December. I figured it was time to get serious! I have not been active in over 5 years. My life has been consumed by work and family. I have not really taken a whole lot of time for myself or my health. This has all changed.

I am going to use my blog this summer as an avenue for progress and baby steps along way. Starting with today’s mini victory of a 8.39 mile walk. I did this walk in a little under 2 hours. This is important because I plan on running a half marathon in August. I have never been one to enjoy any sort of physical activity. Things have changed. In just over 3 weeks I have dropped 5.8lbs and last night I realized I can effectively walk up and down the stairs with out running out of breath. Might not seem like a big deal, but it is to me. Its what we like to call non scale victories.

What I did not understand was how ridiculously out of shape I actually was and the amount of food I consume just on the basis of being stressed out. I have been encouraged and pushed by my close friends and family as of late and I also realized that its nothing to be embarrassed about. My friend who I met through the Sullivan Arena has lost over 80lbs and has been an inspiration to me. She has been checking up on me with weekly emails and is extremely encouraging. I look forward to all the adventures life throws my way an encourage all of you to get out there. Get active. It really is a life changing thing. I am a better fiance, mother, daughter, sister and friend because of it all and I think you can be too!

Kayaking a local lake! Love the Alaskan Summers!

Below is a example of what I did this last week

Sunday- Kayaked Kepler lake over 2 hours fun with family and friends

Monday- 10 mile bike ride with friend made it up 2 hills I was unable to make last week! Huge victory!

Tuesday- 6.65 mile walk 1:42 min at a 15’22′ average pace

Wednesday- Gardened and took a break

Thursday- (today) 8.39 mile walk 1:59 min at a 14’54″ average pace

This weekend we will be camping and I plan on putting my new found endurance to the test by chopping and hauling wood! Good luck this weekend and have a safe 4th of July!

AFC 83 “Best of the Best 7″ has been a blast to put together. The fight card is stacked and the UFC Heavyweight Champion of the world is going to be here in Alaska…. at the AFC. What a great night it will be.

As I sit here and get prepared for the weigh ins tonight, I had to stop and think how I am going to miss not having fights this Summer. Yes it will be a nice break but I am not sure what I am going to do with out the monthly pressure of the event. haha. I can not wait to work on AFC this summer and truly have time to really plan how to make every event like AFC 83 has turned out to be. I am very thankful to the fighters, fans, volunteers and AFC employees who make each event possible. I promise to come back in September stronger!

I am extremely excited to be bringing back up Tony “Kryptonite” Lopez! He will be fighting Ricky “Ice Cold” Shivers and I promise fire works for this fight. This will be one of Shivers biggest fights of his career. If he can get the W I expect big things in store for Shivers.

I also am very excited for the Rod Pucak vs Nic Herron- Webb fight. I think that a lot of people are not taking Rod serious enough and this will be a better fight than most are expecting. Rod has really improved his last 2-3 fights and I think he will be giving Nic a run for his money.

I never really pick my favorites and try to stay unbiased at each fight. This particular card I have picked a couple favorites to win. One being Ricky hah I guess that is a given! I want our home town boy to send Kryptonite packing and pay him back for the Brian Ryan loss. Lets see what happens.

Tony Lopez

Weigh ins are tonight! Come see us!

Hope to see you all out at the fights tomorrow night for the final show of the season! Thank you again for all of your support!

Till next time ~Sarah

So most of you know that I am getting married December of this year. I have been on a budget all year and am trying to save for the wedding. This means no yearly trip to Las Vegas for my birthday Memorial Day weekend. I was super bummed that I would not be able to make it down there as one of my favorite fighters is headlining the event. Its the third installment of Gray Maynard vs Frankie Edgar. After the draw the last time they fought I knew that the 3 time will be a charm for Gray! I expressed to my fiance that I would love to go but did not want to spend the money.

Weird little comments were coming from my family all week like ohh on your birthday lets go to the cabin. I thought to myself why are they talking about my 29th birthday almost a month in advance. On Easter I found out. My fiance contacted my parents, his parents, my Sis and her boyfriend and they all plotted and planned how to get me to Vegas for UFC 130. They all worked it out with Air miles, hotel comps etc. and we are all going to Vegas! I could not have been more excited!

First time I met Gray Maynard May 2007 @ UFC 73

I may be a fight promoter but I am one of the nerdiest fight fans around! UFC and Dana White are my idols and I can not wait to see another live event at the best promotion in the world! The fight card is off the hook!!!!! Two AFC veterans will be fighting on the card!
You might remember DJ “Mighty” Mouse Johnson sick head kick to Jesse Brock’s dome resulting in a vicious KO! Johnson will face his toughest opponent yet by taking on Migel Torres. Also fighting his toughest fight in my opinion Ricky Story will be taking on Thiago Alves. Story grinded out a victory over Julio Paulino! Also on the card is Cody McKenzie. Though he is not an AFC veteran he is from Alaska and we will be cheering him on for the home state!!!! The card is one of the best cards I have seen in a long time. Rampage will be fighting Matt Hamill, Frank Mir fighting Roy “Big Country” Nelson. Kendal Grove vs Tim Boetsch its going to be SICK! Only 31 days and its on!!!
Any fight fan should put on their bucket list to attend a live UFC event in Vegas. When you are walking around the town its all fights all the time. I have been lucky enough to play slots with Chris Leben, watch Matt Hughes get his ass kicked in poker and see Tito Ortiz and his posse trot down the casino at 4 am like he was a king or something. Haha. Its a great time and I highly recommend it. I will be posting from Vegas and keeping everyone updated! Till next time!

I had the honor of attending an MMA event in Washington state called Cage Warrior Combat. It was held in Seattle, WA at a place called the Cirque event center. The venue is a night club like setting and could hold about 500 people. There were no signs on the out side of the building and no advertising anywhere to be seen in the whole town of Seattle. I did not know if I was even in the right place. I asked the guy standing at the door if this is where the fights are at he said yes and I walked in the door. It almost had an underground feel like maybe it was illegal to be there. I liked it. Dim lights chairs stacked right up to the cage. I knew it was going to be a good night.

I went up front to meet my friend who is from Seattle, she was meeting me there. I see UFC fighter Dennis Hallman walked up and tell someone that the main event (the whole reason I came) can not be a pro kick boxing match because this was am amateur event. They would have to modify the rules with no hand strikes to the head. I have never heard this before but did not care. Mike “300″ Hayes vs. kyle Keeny were the main event. Hayes was supposed to come up and fight Brian Ryan and had to back out due to personal reasons and Keeny came up and fought Ryan and suffered a knee to the head that resulted in a nasty KO. I was excited to see these guys go at it. The night started off with a kick boxing match and progressed into MMA matches. There was some talent but the lack of ground knowledge was killing me. I forgot how fun it is to go to fights where you can shout out your instructions. The promoters were kind enough to put us cage side. We were literally sitting on the cage with paps blue ribbon in a can on hand the night was just getting started. Intermission came and Ultimate Fighter contestant Len Bentley came in the cage and chatted about being on the current season. Pretty stand up dude. I like the fight scene in Washington. There are a ton of teams and a ton of hungry guys! I got introduced to a few guys at the fights Will Hammond runs the White Buffalo team has some good guys……also met a guy named Erwin who is an attorney but really involved with the fight scene. Also met a fighter who just recently fought AFC former lightweight champ Scott Thometz and beat him at the last Cage Warrior Combat. They seem to be putting on some good fights and I look forward to following their promotion. Great night of fights good times in Seattle. Excited to go back and check out another live event!
